"Christ and the children"
Executed at the Studios of Morris & Co.
Designed by Edward Burne-Jones


A large and impressive antique stained glass window,
made by Morris & Co. circa 1906, from a design/cartoon
drawn by Burne-Jones in 1892. The window was originally from Trinity Church, Saltcoats Ayrshire, Scotland.
 

The window is leaded and hand painted depicting
Christ blessing little children. It i
s also mentioned
in A.C.Sewter's book, "The Stained
Glass of William Morris and his Circle”
Volume II (1975) page 167.

An entry in the Morris & Co. Catalogue of Designs
dated 20 June 1906, names the glass painters as:
"Christ by Titcomb, children by Stokes, background
quarries, scroll and inscription by Wren"

The background is a lovely dark blue glass, hand painted
with a swirling flower pattern.

The top and bottom panels have quarries painted with a
vine and grape design, with the bottom panel also having
 the inscription.
The entire window is in excellent original condition.
