Attributed to John Moyr Smith,
cira1880 Four antique leaded and hand painted stained glass windows, each with central panels depicting Herons and Storks amidst flora and fauna by a pond. Also with Reeds, Fish, Mushrooms and various flowers. Above are scenes of Birds on branches of Blossom. Below are decorative panels of Acanthus leaves. Around are stylised painted and coloured glass borders. A mixture of Cathedral, Antique and Ruby flash glass has been used, with acid etching to the Ruby glass. Enamel and Silver stain paints have also been used. Originally, the windows were incorporated into a four fold screen, but for some reason were separated. Still in their mahogany wooden frames, each has had glass restoration. An impressive set of windows, super quality and would make a great glass screen again. John Moyr Smith, (1839-1912) was trained as an architect in Glasgow, worked in Christopher Dresser's design studio, was friends with fellow Scotsmen Daniel Cottier and also designed for Minton tiles. Each Window Measures: Frame: 48¼" high x 19½" wide - 122.5cm h x 49.5 w Glass: 45½" high x 17" wide - 116cm h x 43cm w SOLD Ref Vic364 Back to home page |
