by William Glasby (1863-1941)

Decorative rectangular stained glass window, late Victorian - early Edwardian, with a large central hand painted panel depicting a pre-Raphaelite maiden dreaming at the waters edge. Around is a painted border of foliate squares. Signed William Glasby.

William Glasby joined J Powell & Co in 1876 as an apprentice and became their
chief painter. In1891 he left Powell & Co to join Henry Holiday’s new workshop. By about 1897 Glasby was producing his own designs in a style heavily influenced by
Holiday and also Morris & Co, for whom he later worked as a painter between 1909-1911 and 1913-1923. He was in business on his own account from about 1919
